Allen

Our South Mississippi roots run deep..

Thus far I've only had the chance to glance at our Allen ancestry. The earliest
ancestor I can trace through census records is William A Allen born ca 1808
in Georgia. By 1860 William is in Harrison County, Mississippi and married to
Myrtle Malvina Wheeler. I have a death date of 1904 for William;
however, Malvina Allen is in the household with her son Marion
on the 1900 Census, listed as a widow.

William and Myrtle Allen's son, Thomas Alvin Allen, born 17 April 1870,
married Alice Eudora Creel on 30 April 1893. Alice was born 18 January 1876,
the daughter of Reverend William Ransom Creel and Sabra Mahaleann Whittington.
Thomas died 3 November 1930, Alice on 24 November 1949.

Thomas and Alice's daughter, our grandmother, Addie Evelyn Allen
was born 2 March 1895. She married William Avington Woodcock on
31 December 1912. She died on 7 November 1986. She, her parents,
and her paternal grandparents are all buried in
Allen Cemetery, Long Beach, Mississippi.

Alice Weber, a Woodcock cousin and genealogist from the Mississippi Gulf Coast
has written a book on Allen Cemetery which includes genealogies of the
families buried there.
This wonderful contribution to the history of Long Beach is available now.
